MCW - Movie you hated the first time you saw it but now you like it.

Hello my turkey/ham/prime rib stuffed loyal readers and welcome to this week's edition of Movie Clip Wednesday.  You hopefully know the history of this weekly meme.  The Omnipotent Boxer began this way back ago (February I think) and somewhere along the way it ended up here where the loyal readers of the drivel have been faithful followers and great participants, despite my sometimes lame themes and last to minute notice.  Despite this, MCW, like Jason from Friday the 13th, does not die.  (Hmmm, a Friday the 13th reference, foreshadowing perhaps?  Nope.  Just a lame attempt at humor. Anyway, how it works is like this: I pick a theme, usually to the chagrin of everyone, you find a clip that matches said theme, put it on your wonderful blog and then post in the comments of this post that you "are up".  We will all come a check it out and give you blog "high fives".  Look under the MCW banner for the following week's theme.  I'll try to have it up by Thursday. Or Friday. Or whenever I get a post from someone saying "what's the theme for next week's MCW".

I have so many great movie recommendations from this meme that I could't watch them all if I met a rich woman who told me to quit my job and "watch those movies you've always wanted to watch.  Oh yes, and work on your golf game".  This isn't meant to discourage anyone from pushing said rich woman my way.  Just sayin.

This week's theme is "movie you hated the first time you saw it but now you like it".  I have a couple of these to choose from but there is one that stands out more than the others.

In case you're interested.

I'm sure everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving dinners.  I had a great time.  Had to friends over who didn't have a place to go so I cooked a nice prime rib roast and we watched football and laughed hard.  It was a great day.

Here's some links for you to peruse if you have nothing better to do.

The first one is from a site call Ned Hardy and this link is to a list he has entitled "32 undeniable truths for mature humans".  Here's a sample "#23. The only time I look forward to a red light is when I’m trying to finish a text." There's plenty more where that came from.

Over at Filmdrunk the completely awesome Vince Mancini has a red band trailer to a movie being released on December 3rd called "Rare Exports". Here's the plot "A mining company accidentally unleashes a killer Santa Claus who had been trapped deep inside a mountain for millions of years. The Santa Claus goes on a killing rampage, until the townspeople lure him into a trap using a severed pig’s head as bait, and decide to hold him for ransom."  I'm definately going to this.

Next up is a little clip I found over at Steve Czaban's place.  It's the famous turkey scene from WKRP in Cincinnati.  God Loni Anderson was hot.

Over at American Thinker, Tom Roberson has written an interesting piece on Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal.  I really like Jindal but if Roberson has done his homework, and I'm sure he has, then I'm all for jumping off the Jindal bandwagon.

A guy at work is always talking about Theo Spark.  It's not a bad site.  Doesn't really do it for me but some of you may enjoy it.

If you have nothing better to do.

MCW "Favorite Sports Movie"

It's MCW. Started by  Boxer a while back, I've been though for a bit now.. Most of you know how it works but if you're new here (for which I greatly thank you) here's how it works. A theme is picked each week. You choose a movie to fit the theme and find a clip, preferably three minutes or less, and post it on your blog. Announce in the comment section of this post that you are up and we'll come and pay you a visit. It's simple really. If you are looking for the theme it's usually posted under the MCW banner on the right side of  the greatest blog in the universe my drivel by Thursday.

I admit I was rushed.  As a matter of fact, if  Troll hadn't reminded me, I would have probably spaced it out and subjected myself to blog banishment.

Anyway, favorite sports movie was pretty tough.  I love sports movies. Heck, I just plain ol love sports.  I'll most anything that I've ever participated in or that has a ball in it whether it's women's 9-ball, bowling or jai alai.  Some sports are boring (everyone immediately thinks "soccer", correctly I might add) but all in all I enjoy them.

While this week's feature isn't my all-time favorite sports movie, this clip is in the top five.  Paul Newman stars in "Slapshot".  A movie about a hockey team about to go belly up.  Too boost attendance, Newman, the team captain comes up with a plan to change the teams image.  He wants them to be brawlers and then he sign's the Hanson Brothers.  In this scene the teams are warming up.  The good parts are at the 1:15 mark and at the end.  Happy MCW.

Digging out and throwing it in neutral.

After my celebration on Saturday night, Sunday brough much rest as the Lord intended.  I awoke at 6 AM so that I could clean up and go have breakfast with the football team and watch the playoff selection.  MSU received a #4 seed and at least one home game.  The grizzlies were left out of the playoffs for the first time in like 15 years.  That's the way it goes.

After breakfast I hooked up the plow to my four-wheeler and decided to plow my driveway after the 8 inches of snow that dropped Friday night.  Did my driveway and the neighbors and hit my part of the subdivision's sidewalks as it was cold and not a lot of people wanted to shovel evidently.  5.1 miles of sidewalk later I called it a day of plowing.

We are supposed to have lovely weather this week.  High's in the teens.  Low's below zero and more snow.  Fortunately, work will be slow and the need for me to leave the confines of my office for anything more than to drive my truck home will keep me warm and dry.  MCW theme is up.  It's lame I know, but it's a short week and while the Bobcats are winning I went with an easy one.  It's all part of my master plan.

Haiku Thursday is back as well.  Go to Troll's place if you want to know how everything works.

Now it's to work for me.  Take care all.

CAT/griz 2010

This Saturday, the 9th oldest rivalry in all of college football will be held in The Pits of Mount Doom Missoula. It's hard to win there. Period.  A very loud place to play. Rowdy fans. Referees who are afraid to make a call against the home team and dominance by the griz over the Cats the last 25 years.  I like the Cats chances but in a rivalry, anything can happen.

Am I going to Missoula?  The answer is simply "no".  More completely though it is "Hell no".  Missoula is a shithole.  It's full of smog and hippies. Their rivers are dirty, their infrastructure was designed by retards u of m grads.  The list is endless. OK, the infrastructure thing, it wasn't designed by u of m grads.  They don't have engineering there.  MSU does, but no grads from here designed Enemaville. This is how stupid the citizens of Missoula and the surrounding area are.  There are a couple of lumber mills in Missoula and of course they are union.  So the union members all vote democrat and when the environmentalists put almost a comlete halt to the timber industry, thereby causing layoffs and closures, the union blamed Bush.  Wait, what?  Like I said.  Morons. The point is that Missoula sucks to get around in because it's a dump.  Plain and simple.  Besides, why would I want to sit with 25,000 assholes dressed in dark pink when I can sit with 100 of the finest people on God's green earth and have my glass constantly full.

Here's a little something to get the juices flowing at mid-week.  THE BRAWL OF THE WILD!! Amanda's dad and the rest of the griz better have their "A" game.

It's not that Missoula doesn't have some nice people and a couple of decent fans, it's just that in comparison to ANY other major town in Montana, it's swampland.  Get it?

Movie Clip Wednesday "Worst Sequel"

It's MCW. Started by  Boxer a while back, I've been the caretaker of this gig for a week or three now. Most of you know how it works but if you're new here (for which I greatly thank you) here's how it works. A theme is picked each week. You choose a movie to fit the theme and find a clip, preferably three minutes or less, and post it on your blog. This was a hard one.  So many shitty sequels. I guess one of the rules is that the first movie had to be at least decent.  If it wasn't, what would you have to compare it to.  Caddyshack 2, Teen Wolf 2, Blues Brothers 2000, Godfather 3 (how could the best sequel have one of the worst.  Anyway, I'm late for pool league and when I chose this topic the movie that first came to my mind was Another 48 Hours.  So disappointing on so many levels.  First, no Annette O'Toole.  She didn't get near enough screen time in the first one and none in the second.  A travesty of epic proportions.  Don't think so?  Ask men if they are enough hot redheads in the world and the answer will be a resounding "NO".  The defense rests.  The ridiculous story line, the shitty motorbike scene, the 1/2 shoot out "all the windows everywhere" scene.  I hated all of it.  I guess when it comes to bad sequels, you're anticipation for wanting to see it combined with your disappointment once you do is the biggest factor.  It's kind of like giving an girlfriend a second chance.  You had some good times the last time, it didn't work out the way you wanted but good memories so you get back together and it's a disaster.  Kind of like that.  Not saying that's ever happened to me but I've seen some things.  Happy MCW.

BlackTooth Brewing Company

Just a couple pictures of the new Brewery! Hope to be serving the day after Thanksgiving!

I gotta post something

I found this clip on Warming Glow the other day.  At least I think it was Warming Glow.  Anyway, it's two guys arguing on how to do a Michael Caine imitation and as most readers here I think are fans I thought I'd put it up to while the hours away until I post something that most people will not find is worth their time to read.  Kind of like this.

We still have Monte

Even though this video (made by an Eastern Washington fan) mistakenly says that if EWU wins out they win the conference (they don't, if Montana State wins out my Bobcats win the title) it's still well done and very funny.  Especially the Hauch reference.

Movie Clip Wednesday "First Date Movie"

Hello and welcome back another sterling edition of Movie Clip Wednesday. Started by  The Glorious Boxer  a while back, I've been the caretaker of this gig for a week or three now. If you are looking for the theme it's usually posted under the MCW banner on the right side of my drivel by Thursday

This week's theme was your first date with someone. You're supposed to pick a movie you went to see on a first date with someone, whether it's your soulmate or someone you knew from high school or college.  Looking for some good stories here dear followers of the drivel.  I know I won't be disappointed.
It was a long time ago. We still lived in the big white house on 4th Street. I was probably too young to be going on a date.  As a matter of fact my mom and my prospective date's mom would not have allowed it if they had known but I was determined to go anyway.

A sad story gets sadder.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about a tragedy that had occurred in my wonderful home town.  Although I've waited to post this I'd like to keep you all informed and I hope that my old wrestling teammate Sheriff Tom Miller is wrong.

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — Authorities say the case of a 16-year-old boy who was shot while hunting near Malta is being treated as a homicide.

Phillips County Sheriff Tom Miller says Logan Wilson's death does not make sense as a suicide or as an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound. The sheriff says the death will be considered a homicide unless witnesses come forward or ballistics tests clear up what happened.

Authorities say Wilson became separated from two friends he was hunting with on Oct. 23. His companions eventually found him in a field, and he had been shot once in the neck. The Malta boy died at the scene
.
The sheriff's office says one of Wilson's hunting companions has been interviewed but the other has declined to come in for questioning.

I'll update you more as the situation develops.

Random thoughts about the election and American scene.

Had a couple of drinks with my friend Jon at The Mint here in Belgrade.  Our waitress/bartender has a husband who has served two tours in Iraq.   Jon asked to borrow $60 bucks from me as he was out of cash. I didn't ask why.  He's good for it.  He says " I'm going to buy her and her husband dinner for his service."  I told him I was in for half.  She was very touched.  Even better news.  She said she'd been offered a position at The Grantree where I stop every Friday.  Jessica, I look forward to seeing you there and thanks to your husband Nate for his service.

Things that crossed my mind while wondering how Barry and the media don't get it.

MCW theme for 11/10/10

Sorry kids.  I totally forgot about posting a theme last night.  Anyway, here's a different twist on MCW.  Pick a movie that was your first date with someone.  Whether it's your current partner or someone from high school or junior high.  Tell us what movie you watched.  Maybe how you chose that movie and if you ended up making out or getting shut down.  You know, important stuff. Did it lead to some kind of romance or did your date get up for popcorn and not come back.  Maybe she ended up at the post-prom keggar with Tim Starkey instead of the guy who paid for her corsage and dinner at Stines (right Shoey hahahahahahha.  Still classic.  Just think, that ISN'T the story he wanted me to not tell.  Love ya Shoey)  Sorry I'm late.  Right now I'm imagining Buzz as Ming the Merciless.

Movie Clip Wednesday "Favorite Coming of Age Movie" This is for you Shoey!

Hello and welcome to the famous blog theme/meme/whatever it really is MOVE CLIP WEDNESDAY! Started by Boxer sometime ago I've been given the keys to the city and it's been a ticker tape parade of great theme's ever since.  Well, as long as you're asking me anyway. If you are looking for the theme it's usually posted under the MCW banner on the right side of my drivel by Thursday

This could have gone a lot of ways for me. There are the obvious choices of  Stand by Me and The Breakfast Club.  Ferris Bueller also can fit this category. My unabashed love for Diane Lane could have made me pick The Outsiders or even the underrated Six Pack. However, just picking a movie because I want a Diane Lane clip seems to be a little on the creepy side.  Even for me.  When I saw this category suggested by Moi  I immediately went back to my youth and remembered a great movie.  I remember going to it with Shoey.  It was a big deal because Shoey's dad actually let him go to a movie on a school night.  That just never happened.  The night when we returned home, Shoey's dad asked him what the movie was about.  Shoey replied "It's about a kid who can't figure out what he wants to do with his life and get's a bunch of shit from his dad. Just like me."  Classic answer and I never forgot it.  There are some good Shoey stories out there that all of us Malta boys know about Shoe and his dad that might be worth telling someday.  I'll have to think on that.

Without further ado, I present to you the 1979 classic Breaking Away.  Enjoy and thanks for playing.  Incidently, Shoey turned out just fine.  Graduated from Montana State and went on to get his MBA at Gonzaga, so, he figured out what he wanted to do.   He made his dad Jim proud before Jim left us much to soon.

Thanks for playing. I'll have another theme that I probably didn't choose up by Thursday under the MCW banner.  Enjoy.

Time to save the U.S.A.

Don't forget to vote today.  It's not too late to save us from the path to serfdom that Mullah President Obama has us on.  Vote early and often.
