I don't go out much on Wednesday. No drink special at the Grantree (my haunt) it's mid week. Nothing really to do.
I started stopping at Boxer's Lounge ( not our Boxer I don't think but maybe? She can confirm.) this past summer. Went in there in July on a non-North Dakota trip for something different. Well it turns out that a lot of guys I know in Belgrade stop there on Wednesday so I would pop in on occasion and tip a few with them. My banker, a couple of guys I play golf league with, people I know. Anyway, its always a nice evening.

Movie Clip Wednesday - Favorite movie from the 1940's
Welcome back to Movie Clip Wednesday. The Boxer inspired meme where you come here to see what the theme is, find a clip of about three minutes, come back here to say "you're up" and then we'll come and visit and give you our two bits. This week's theme is "Favorite movie from the 1940's".
I was going to go a totally different direction with this. I have lot's of movies from the 40's I love. Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Citizen Kane and It's a Wonderful Life just to name a few. I was really leaning towards Casablanca and knew that from the beginning when I picked the decade. It would be an easy week for me.

MCW "Favorite movie set in winter"
Happy New Year my gaggle of readers. I trust everyone woke up Saturday morning bright eyed and bushy tailed and ready to tackle 2011. It's the first Movie Clip Wednesday of the New Year. Ulitmate party host Boxer is the birth giver of this meme and we are its caretakers. Here's the gist if you may be new. I come up with a theme and post it under the MCW banner the Thursday previous (usually, anyway). You find a clip around three minutes long, come here and let us know you're up and running. We'll all stop by and have us a look see.
This week's theme is "Favorite movie set in winter". I thought I'd start us off easy. I'm sure there was more than one blogger who couldn't post every clip they wanted under "favorite Christmas movie" so here's a chance to get that clip here. Or you could be like me and have some none Christmas movies set in winter that you just love.
I could actually post a bunch here. It was really hard not to post the Cusack classic "Better off Dead" but just couldn't do it. Figured it will be there somewhere from someone. If not, well, so be it.
My first pick is "Hot Dog, the movie" as opposed I guess to hot dog the-ground-up-beef-lip-tailgate-favorite. This movie from the 1984 is flippin awesome. The classic small town boy trying to make it big on the ski circuit going against the sleezy European bad guy (no offense to my European readers, this guy is sleazy not all of you. There are sleazy Americans as well. See DC, Washington) Anyway here's the intro. No helmets. No baggy clothes. Just some good tight hot dog skiing. This movie starred David Naughton who also starred in An American Werewolf in London and was Elaine's recovering alcoholic boyfriend in the Seinfeld episode where George buys the sweater with the red dot on it. George! What a guy! It also starred 1982 Playboy Playmate of the Year Shannon Tweed who went on to do such classics as Gene Simmons from KISS.
The other movie that I love that's set in the winter is John Carpenter's The Thing. In space no one can hear you scream. Not to many people can hear you in Antartica either. I think Kurt Russell is better in this than in Escape from New York. Just my humble opinion. This is a great take on a classic. You won't find me saying that hardly ever. Especially as I haven't seen the new True Grit yet.
Happy MCW.

MCW "Favorite Foreign Actress"
I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas and or Hanuka. I'm ready to kick off the New Year with a blog party at Boxer's place this Friday night. Until then, we have the last MCW of 2010 to finish up.
You all know that Boxer is the creator of this meme. Preferred clip length is around three minutes but it's not cast in stone. When it's up on your blog, come here and let us all know.
When I had favorite foreign actor as a theme way back in the long ago, more than one person said that it was a stretch to consider Michael J. Fox a foreigner, or as Aunty may refer to them a "ferrener" (not close aI know).
This week I went with an actress that was actually from across the Atlantic to she is definately foreign. So smart, funny and beautiful. She'd have me wrapped around her finger until I left the earth. She's gone by many names. Sabrina, Eliza and Holly among others. To me she is just the most beautiful woman I've ever laid eyes on. I think the thing I admired most about Audrey Hepburn was the fact that she really seemed sincere and genuine in real life. Like making movies was just this thing she did so that she could give back the world all the wonderful things it had given her. I don't have a lot of respect for Hollywood but I remember being sad when I heard the announcement of her passing.
Take a long look you current Hollywood starlets. It would take far too many of you to count to match the pure beauty and elegance of this one women. Both on screen and off. Happy MCW.
For a better great clip go here. Embedding disabled.
Screwed up auto-post again. Note to self: when you re-read it goes to draft if you don't tell it to auto post. Got it? Got it!

MCW Favorite Christmas Movie
Merry Christmas fellow bloggers. Welcome to this week's edition of Movie Clip Wednesday. This week's theme was quite easy to choose. Remember how this works. I give you a theme, you find a movie clip around three minutes long then drop by here and say that you're up and running and we'll all pop over and have a gander. The magnificent Boxer started this a couple of week's or so ago, maybe longer, anyway we all have to keep it going.
So many good movies to choose from. I'm not going to lie, I'm expecting a lot of It's a Wonderful Life and a lot of Christmas Vacation clips and that's fine with me. It will be interesting to see how many blog jinx's there are this week. I went with A Christmas Story. There were a number of reasons but I think the biggest was it reminded me of growing up in Malta (wow, what were the odds of that?). Just everything about it, the clothes, having to take care of my brother on the way to school, the way the kids acted in class, just all of it. Too many good lines, too many things that happened that made me think of Ralph, Jim and St. Mary's. The hats, the kid sticking his tongue on a flagpole. I love this movie.
"the old man stood quivering with fury, stammering as he tried to come up with a crusher all he got out was.......... NOT A FINGER!!!"
Here's a trailer for the movie "Rare Exports: A Christmale Tale". Looks good. A little different spin on Santa in this one.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

The classics never die.
In my never ending quest to bring you the best of the mundane, I came across this clip. It's a montage of people saying "we're not in Kansas anymore" and it's really pretty entertaining. Thanks to The Warming Glow for broadening my horizons.

MCW Favorite Cop Movie
(Sorry for being late. Screwed up my autopost)
Okey Dokey. Narrow theme, then a broad theme. I have good news though. In the spirit of the season, I'm going to name the theme for the next TWO MCW's. Everyone is going to be really busy with all the stuff that goes on this time of year so here's your assignments. The theme for 12/15 is "most overrated movie". This is a Boxer suggestion and it's a great one. The theme for 12/22 is (drum roll please) favorite Christmas Movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. /standing ovation from the blogosphere ensues.
Here's how it works. Each week I pick a theme, you go out into the world wide interweb and find an appropriate clip, hopefully less than three minutes long, come over here and post that you are up and we all come and see what it is you've done. Boxer began this and it's up to us to finish it. Kind of like how the young kids took the herd the rest of the way to town after John Wayne died in The Cowboys. God did I hate Bruce Dern after that. I don't know if I watched a movie with him in it for like 10 years.
This week's theme was a suggestion from Five Wood. With the death of Leslie Nielson, he thought a cop movie theme would be good. I didn't have anything better so I rolled with it.

MCW - Movie you hated the first time you saw it but now you like it.
Hello my turkey/ham/prime rib stuffed loyal readers and welcome to this week's edition of Movie Clip Wednesday. You hopefully know the history of this weekly meme. The Omnipotent Boxer began this way back ago (February I think) and somewhere along the way it ended up here where the loyal readers of the drivel have been faithful followers and great participants, despite my sometimes lame themes and last to minute notice. Despite this, MCW, like Jason from Friday the 13th, does not die. (Hmmm, a Friday the 13th reference, foreshadowing perhaps? Nope. Just a lame attempt at humor. Anyway, how it works is like this: I pick a theme, usually to the chagrin of everyone, you find a clip that matches said theme, put it on your wonderful blog and then post in the comments of this post that you "are up". We will all come a check it out and give you blog "high fives". Look under the MCW banner for the following week's theme. I'll try to have it up by Thursday. Or Friday. Or whenever I get a post from someone saying "what's the theme for next week's MCW".
I have so many great movie recommendations from this meme that I could't watch them all if I met a rich woman who told me to quit my job and "watch those movies you've always wanted to watch. Oh yes, and work on your golf game". This isn't meant to discourage anyone from pushing said rich woman my way. Just sayin.
This week's theme is "movie you hated the first time you saw it but now you like it". I have a couple of these to choose from but there is one that stands out more than the others.

MCW "Favorite Sports Movie"
It's MCW. Started by Boxer a while back, I've been though for a bit now.. Most of you know how it works but if you're new here (for which I greatly thank you) here's how it works. A theme is picked each week. You choose a movie to fit the theme and find a clip, preferably three minutes or less, and post it on your blog. Announce in the comment section of this post that you are up and we'll come and pay you a visit. It's simple really. If you are looking for the theme it's usually posted under the MCW banner on the right side of
I admit I was rushed. As a matter of fact, if Troll hadn't reminded me, I would have probably spaced it out and subjected myself to blog banishment.
Anyway, favorite sports movie was pretty tough. I love sports movies. Heck, I just plain ol love sports. I'll most anything that I've ever participated in or that has a ball in it whether it's women's 9-ball, bowling or jai alai. Some sports are boring (everyone immediately thinks "soccer", correctly I might add) but all in all I enjoy them.
While this week's feature isn't my all-time favorite sports movie, this clip is in the top five. Paul Newman stars in "Slapshot". A movie about a hockey team about to go belly up. Too boost attendance, Newman, the team captain comes up with a plan to change the teams image. He wants them to be brawlers and then he sign's the Hanson Brothers. In this scene the teams are warming up. The good parts are at the 1:15 mark and at the end. Happy MCW.

Michael Keaton Stand Up
Came across this clip of Michael Keaton doing some stand up. I thought it was very funny and would love to see the entire thing. It's about 5 minutes but entertaining. He made some very funny movies in the 1980's.
This clip is on the house.

Movie Clip Wednesday - Favorite/Best Black and White Movie
Welcome to Movie Clip Wednesday. Boxer put me in charge of this meme "temporarily" a few months ago. That's kind of like loaning me a golf club. "Hey, can I try out your driver that you don't hit anymore?" If that happens the chances are close to zero you will ever see it again. Its harder than it looked . Keeping this meme going. It reminds of the "Seinfeld" episode where George takes the job parking cars and screws it all up and the guy says "any fool can park a car".
However, not knowing when to quit is one of strengths. Most of you know how it works but if you're new here (for which I greatly thank you) here's how it works. A theme is picked each week. You choose a movie to fit the theme and find a clip, preferably three minutes or less, and post it on your blog. This week's theme, which was posted on Thursday, September 30th, in the year of our Lord 2010 AD, which is plenty of notice for virtually everyone on planet Earth, is favorite/best black and white movie. When I was a Netflix subscriber, I decided to watch all of the classics I had never seen before. Like On the Waterfront, A Streetcar named Desire, Citizen Kane and many others. I made it through the aforementioned along with some other great movies. As noted in last week's theme Gone with the wind didn't make it into my DVD player. Anywhoo, though I'm a big fan of Casablanca and Young Frankenstein the movie I consider the best black and white, if not the best thing I've ever watched is All Quiet on the Western Front. I thought it was very well done, especially in the time of overacting. The scene I've chosen is the ending scene of the movie. Funny how I couldn't find this scene when the theme was "best/favorite death scene" but that's my luck all the way.
Nest week's theme will be up in the next day or so under the "Movie Clip Wednesday" banner so keep your eyes peeled.
Man, these pretzels are making me thirsty.

Movie Clip Wednesday "The remote stops here" Ferris Bueller
Movies you'll stop to watch while channel surfing no matter how long its been playing. My choice - Ferris Bueller.
Hi! Welcome to Movie Clip Wednesday. I'm your temporary host Milk River Madman. Here's how it works. Yours truly picks a theme every week, usually with little or no notice and usually not a very good theme, you then find a clip, preferably three minutes or less, post it on your blog and then come here and let us all know in the comments section that you are locked and loaded. We will come over and check it out and do it again next week.
While there is more than one movie that I could have chosen for this week's theme, Ferris Bueller is the one at the top of the list. So much in fact that when I have the menu on the screen when I'm hanging ten channel surfing and see it playing, I'll skip right to it and not even care if there is a commercial on. That's dedication boys and girls. That could also mean that I don't have a life but we can debate that later.
Here's a bit of a montage of famous lines from FBDO. Enjoy.
I'm starting to really hate youtube and can never find the exact clip I want. I might start picking my themes backwards, Anyway, next week's theme is best movie about Montana! OK, just kidding. That would be way to hard. Afterall, is there a bad one? I'm going to mix it up here. How about favorite actor from the 1990's? Does that sound good? Lets see a show of hands. It's unanimous. It's good to be the king!!

Paper Doll and others
Ladies and Gentlemen. The Mills Brothers. Enjoy. These guys are AWESOME! I'm bragging when I say I know all the words. Great harmony. I bought their greatest for me as well.
PAMOKC, did you listen to this?
PAMOKC, did you listen to this?
I'm "In the mood"
I grew up with this. My mom loves Glenn Miller and so do I. Bought her this and the Mills Brothers greatest hits on CD. She tried to put it on her record player and they wouldn't work. "Chip! It's just making a scratching noise" "PUT IT IN THE CD PLAYER AL!" "OH! OK It's working now" I love them as well. Yes, I'm Crowned up and listnening to music late at night and its FRICKING AWESOME! God how I love my life. Mills Brothers to follow.
My sister knew Glenn Miller personnally. Baby sat his kids. OK, that's a shot at how old she is. She didn't babysit his kids. They were grown and in college by then. My dear sister how do you like this? God how Alvina has great taste in old music.
