Letter to the editor #4

Recently the daily rag of a newspaper added a couple of local columnists to its opinion rotation.  On, Rich Sherlock, is a local business owner.  His first article was about the impending financial disaster health care bill.  It didn't take long for some liberal wussy with a shrivelled up nut sack to make a bunch of stupid statements my comments are in blue.

I was extremely disappointed to read Rich Sherlock’s maiden column (Oct. 28). His writing reveals the same non-thought processes as those of Tamara Hall, then he should be an excellent read every week. Two examples:

“Only individuals can be compassionate; government can’t.”

Why not? Government is a reflection of the people (at least in my democracy) c’mon John, don’t you mean our democracy which is actually a representative republic, and if I am compassionate, then why cannot my representative government pass compassionate laws, for example those regarding handicapped individuals or the victims of crimes or disasters? Compassion is an emotion, and governments do not feel emotion. Governing with emotion instead of logic will lead us to destruction. Hey, wait a minute. We’ve done that. Anyone who can use the public library (another government social program) what? The library is a government social program? or access the Internet the internet is a government social program? could discover these “compassionate” acts of government.

“No social program has ever succeeded in solving the problem for which it was created.”

Like the Food and Drug Administration? Uh, not a social program there John its a regulatory agency Which did not get rid of the sale of diseased meat, poisons posing as medicines, and misleading labeling? Like the GI Bill, designed originally to provide educational opportunities for WW II veterans and reduce post-war unemployment. It didn’t work? It worked but is it a “social” program? No.

Get out your history book, Mr. Sherlock. Like the Marshall Plan, to rebuild war-torn Europe and keep it from going communist? What are your views to doing this in Iraq I wonder. History book time again, Sherlock. Social Security, compassionately designed to provide retirement saving accounts for those without the resources to buy stocks and bonds. Hasn’t worked? Its broke you fucking moron. There is no money in it. Besides that, it was designed as a way for people to supplement their own retirement. It was also never supposed to be higher than 2% of your personal earnings and its been raided sinced the 60's.  Thats why it doesn't have any money in it. Why don't you read a book, dipshit.Talk to your grandmother. Voting Rights Act. Mr. Sherlock, do you know anything about the history of racial discrimination in our nation, and how effective this 1965 legislation was, and is, in providing social justice for people of color in the nation? It provided social justice but is it a social program? The answer is no.Yes, they can vote, and the democrats have been making the same tired promises to them for years. It also was passed because Republicans blocked southern Democrats from filibustering it but I digress.

Editor, are you not embarrassed to provide a showplace for such ignorance in your publication? If the editor wasn't embarrassed before, he/she definitely is now. Please provide us with an intelligent and educated local conservative to share his or her opinions in the Chronicle. Just read my blog.

Cat/griz post two

There is just a little over 48 hours until the 109th Brawl of the Wild.  The greatest rivalry in sports.  This is a pure good vs. evil matchup.  Montana State University, the land grant college established in 1893 for the  common good of our great state.  A place where an education gets you more than a low entry level government job.  We produce engineers who build our roads and bridges.  We produce chemists who cure diseases and send projects on the space shuttle to be studied.  We have one of the top agricultural programs in the nation to help feed the world.  Pre-med degrees from MSU can get you into almost any medical program in the country.

The university of Montana produces hippies who live off of welfare.  They have a major in protesting so that trust fund babies can go to college and pretend to be educated and "make a difference". You can get a law degree at um.  Just what the world needs, more lawyers. They vote for liberals who are against logging and then complain when the mills are shutdown.

The coaches are in complete contrast.  We have  Rob Ash, as classy as the day is long. A man who stepped into a program that was on the verge of imploding. Academic probation, loss of scholarships and practice time, a sub-par APR all stood before him.  He took over in July of 2007 when his predecessor had been let go just before the start of the season. None of his own recruits on this team. Some resentment from the players.  Nothing that looked fun.  What has he done since?  Well, the Cats are off probation, have their full slate of scholarships back as well as full schedule of practices.  All of this before the start of this season.   In 2009 Ash was named second vice president of the American Football Coaches Association. According to AFCA tradition he would move up first vice president in 2010 and president in 2011. Guys like Mack Brown from Texas and Jim Tressel from OSU are on this board.

Coach Ash sums up his philosophy this way, “We instill a commitment in our players to win every day,” Ash said. “We want our players to win in the classroom and win in the community by making quality choices. Winning on the football field follows, as does shaping the lives of these young people in a way that will lead to success throughout their lives.”  Nuff said.

Meanwhile, down the road:

They have  a man who is so despised by his own fan base that despite his record, there is a slow movement asking for him to leave. His name is  Satan  Bobby Hauck. His reign of terror tenure over this football program has been significant.  Robberies and murders by players were all but been ignored by the local and state media.  His latest  negative publicity comes from a feud he is having with the college newspaper because they dared report on a couple of griz football players  assaulting another student..  The feud has been featured on Sports Illustrated's website. Yeah, the guy wins football games but a bigger douchebag in the state, outside of the governor's office, is hard to find.

This is Aragorn vs. Sauron.  Churchill vs. Hitler.   Batman vs. the Joker.  Ghostbusters vs. Gozer the Gozerian.  Luke Skywalkler vs. The Emperor.  Delta House vs. Omega. You get the picture. Its time for the Bobcats to cast out the dark pink demons.  Let that time be Saturday afternoon.

Cat/griz game post one

The biggest rivalry in all of college football is taking place this weekend in Bozeman. The Montata State Fighting Bobcats versus the liberal arts school from down the road grizzlies.

Just a quick post.  The Cats have to play flawless football to win this. It goes without saying that the Cats can't have any turnovers.  Here's my quick game synopsis.  The Cats have to hole Mariani to six catches or less. He's going to have one big catch but they can't let him catch more than six. While we are talking about Mariani, they can't let him have a big punt return. The guy is a stud but they can't let him break anything big on a return.  Hold their first team all-conference running back, Chase Reynolds, to 100-110 yards. If all this happens, then The Cats could pull this out and maybe make the playoffs.

More on this later in the week.

Go Cats!

Phoenix quick post

So, The Prodigy (TP) and I spent 5 days and 4 nights in Phoenix we golfed Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Tim is a 6.4 and I am a 19.9.  We determined (and when I say "we" I mean "I" and the USGA) that I would receive 13 shots a round as determined by the handicapped holes on the golf courses we were playing.

Long story short, in 54 holes, at a dollar each, I lost one American dollar. ONE!  Now, TP didn't play to his ability but then neither did I.  The 13 strokes difference in our handicap worked out just like the USGA thought it would but if you could have heard "you're not playing like a 19" as many times in 54 holes as I did, and you were me, then you would be quite happy with the outcome. As I am. I mean, I lost a $70 dollar bottle of scotch at our Masters weekend in Sheridan this past April and I didn't cry like a churlish little girl. But, that's just me.  I win and lose like a champion.  If I had a better putter, I would have crushed him on Saturday. I eagerly await your response to this my vertically challenged friend.

We played golf, I taught TP a card game that he now hates and will never play again, we had a great time at the race, we drove in the "big city" traffic like it was no big deal. Well except for a little slip up leaving the rental car center but, hey, no harm no foul. We found a great track, the Golf Club of Estralla and it was AWESOME!  I put that in caps for a reason.  $40 for 18 holes and a cart. The flipping Coronas made up the difference, $30 a six pack, but nonetheless a beautiful layout. Great holes, nice views, rattlesnake country, the entire package.

The race was kind of boring as Jimmy "I'm so fucking lucky that Jeff Gordon found me and sponsored me" Johnson dominated but a fun time nonetheless. Our seats were just to left of Kurt Busch's car (the blue one) in this picture. This is the first lap. Good times, a great trip.  I'll post some more pictures later.

The Walt Gibbs Memorial

I'll try to make this short.

My father died November 11, 1994.  The next fall, we had hired a young guy.  He was full of himself, much like me. Though we had worked together for over three months we had never hung out after work.

I happened to be working a Saturday which was rare for me.  This kid says "what are you doing after work?"

I replied "I'm going to get shitfaced."

"Really? My girlfriends out of town. Do you want some company?'

"Well" I replied "My Dad died a year ago today and if you want to hang with me then you'll have to listen to how great he was all night."

"Sounds good.  I'd love to hear about your father."

Now, this kid is a talker. I mean, he can go on and on. Much like myself.  He was also a great worker and busted his ass for the company I worked for.  I like him from the get go.

We went out to the Hideaway Lounge.  It was supposed to be a night of mourning for me. I was pretty blue.

This kid has a great relationship with his own dad. At the time, talked to him every day.

We sit down, and this guy says to me " Tell me about your dad."

So I precede to do so.  For those of you who missed a tribute read here.

I talked. He asked questions. He hung on my every word.  What was supposed to be a night of me feeling sorry for myself turned into a tribute to my father.

A year passed.  It was Veteran's Day.  The day of my father's passing.  I had made a point of this the year prior.

Tim comes up to me.  "Are we going out to drink to your dad?'

I had never thought of it.  I had my one year of grief and it was good.

"No. We did that last year"

"Oh Chip.  This needs to be a yearly event.  We had a great time.  You need to celebrate this every year and remember the good times.  Let's do it again."

We took a couple of other guys from work and the Walt Gibbs Memorial Celebration was born.

Tim is The Prodigy. He posts here on very rare occasion. We haven't celebrated the WGM together for over ten years but he calls me every November 11th.  So the two of us bought a NASCAR package last spring.  He lives in Sheridan Wyoming. I was booking my flight out of Bozeman. He has to fly out of Billings.  He is really working me to fly out of Billings. I don't want to make the drive.  It's no cheaper so why would I. I'm not even looking at the date.

"Hey! Look at your fucking calendar!"

"Oh! It never dawned on me. I'll be in Billings."

So tonight, I'm in Billings with TP and my brother. We will have a great dinner and a little hooch.

Today or tonight. Take a moment and remember the fallen.  Those brave men and women who died to give us our freedom and the lives we lead.  Brave men and women who laid down their lives, gave up their families and put themselves first. God bless them and their families.

If you have the chance, go to a Veteran's Day Memorial.  Take some time to think about them. I know you will.

Cats vs Sac State.

So, the Cats dominated PSU on a very rainy Saturday 28-10.  Sac State this weekend and then the dark pink on November 21.  Sac State isn't a game they should overlook but it isn't one they should lose either.  I'm not trying to keep it short but I have a lot to do this week.  I leave Wednesday for Billings then hopping a plane Thursday at 6 AM with The Prodigy for Phoenix. We have some golf and NASCAR to get in so my blogging time is limited.  If the Cats can win, and then beat the minions of hell next week, then they should go to the playoffs.  Lose either of these games and its next year.

The dark pink and gray squeaked out a last second win over win-less Idaho State 12-10.  It's what good teams do but the griz may have been exposed, especially in the secondary.  If there is one thing to learn from this game its that Mariani needs two guys to cover him and when the game is on the line, he is there go to guy.

In South Bend, Navy kicked the living shit out of ND.  Again.  Its the second time in three years and ND got lucky to win last year.  Ask not for whom the bell tolls Charlie. It tolls for thee.

For the  Midshipmen.
