Tuesday Tunes 5/18/10

It's been a while since we had any playlists here at COTR.  So if you are able to, have a listen to today's playlist.  The theme is sad songs.  I'm sad, so that's what you get. If you're new, you can check out my other playlist's here.  Pam, you need to confirm me as a follower on playlist you silly girl.

If you like John Denver.......

Then click here.  Made a little playlist for your listening pleasure.  I was actually looking for a different John Denver song to add to my "Sad Songs" playlist but couldn't find it so I just decided to make a list of his songs.  Couldn't get to 14 though.  That kind of bums me out.  Of course on a day like today it's easy to do.  It's snowing out.  I hate spring in Bozeman.

Here's a guy that's not a John Denver fan.  Its a very poor quality youtube.  I'm not apologizing for it.  I didn't do it.  Just sayin its pretty fuzzy and the audio isn't that good, but they do mention "Mr. Sunshine on my goddam shoulders John Denver!"  "I hate to break this up be we got a 10-92."  I guess that's better than doing a 10-100.  My head is filled with mush.

Tuesday tunes

I kind of expanded my musical spectrum today. Spent the day listening to Pandora on a station I made myself for a different musical list. I actually started doing this in my truck on XM Radio but haven't spent enough time driving to make a good list.

Anyway, without further ado, here's a playlist of a bunch of different bands and artists that sound pretty similar but are good nonetheless.  Except for the females that is.

Heading to Malta tomorrow afternoon with brother Bill.  Going to see Ma before she goes to AZ for the winter.  I'll try to take some pics and get some videos footage even.

Tuesday Tunes 10/27/09

Wow, another post within a week of the last one? I know what you're thinking, "MRM, you're blogging to much, take some time for yourself, don't over do it." Don't worry trusted readers, I'm going to ease into posting more blogs. I won't get carried away.

So, I think it was Friday night, I started making a youtube list of oldies for Ralph and the boys and before you know it "Shazaam!" I have a playlist. You see, when you're as good as I am, sometimes finding something to post just falls in your lap. This is one of those times.

I really, really want to post about our political situation as Barry and his henchmen are doing everything in their power to destroy the U.S. from within but just can't bring myself to bitch about it. Well, maybe I can. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, enjoy this collection of some of my favorites from sunny slopes of long ago. "one thing led to another, we were young" that's a great lyric right there. Enjoy.

If you like the first track, here is a great video of Phil lip syncing "live". You just don't see guys playing the tambourine like that anymore. Its a lost art. On a sad note, Phil Seymour passed away in 1993 from lymphoma. Kym and Pam probably already know he was from Tulsa. RIP Phil.

Tuesday Tunes 9/22/09

Here's a blast from the past. This list goes out to all my homeys who walked the hallowed halls with me so many years ago. There's a little on there for Ralph in NV, a track or two for Delm at the center of the universe and there's even a couple for James III in the wilds of Minnesota.

The fourteen question still lingers. Pam was close. She just needs to take it to the next level. The rest of you (except those of you exempt from guessing) were not close. C'mon people!! Work with me here! What else do you have to do today? Your jobs? Please.

Anyway. Enjoy your Tuesday.

Tuesday Tunes on a Friday

Sometimes on a Saturday night, I'll sit by my computer with a glass of Canadian whiskey and trade IM's with my good friend Ralph. Back in the old days on a Saturday, we'd stay up late pulling CD after CD and playing each other music. "Here's one that'll take you back", the music will start and I'd say "This is a GREAT song". Well, Ralph lives in Carson City now so we don't get to do that. It's a tough go when you're best friend of 40 years, a man you talk to every few days and see 3-4 times a month has to pack up and go but that's what life does.

Well, now when we sit up late and have an adult beverage together we talk on the computer, not quite the same but better than nothing. And now we trade music over the computer which is FREAKIN AWESOME! We were up til 2 AM a couple of weeks ago and the youtubes were flying over the world wide interweb and in the morning we didn't have to put 100 CD's back in their right cases.

Ralph sent me some clips today so I thought I'd make a playlist out of them for the six people who read this mindless tripe of a blog. It's quite a variety and some old songs I haven't heard in a gazillion years.

Back in high school when Ralph made a mix tape, he called them "RG Reproductions" so that's what this playlist is entitled. Sorry Ghoulies, I couldn't find Frankie and the Knockouts but did link the video to "Sweetheart" here. Also, if you want to see Heart in their prime, check out the video for "Never" here. Man they were HOT!

Have a great weekend everyone. Heading to Billings tomorrow to play the Briarwood and separate Mike O from some of his money. It's what I do.

Wednesday Rock Oout

Well its funny that if you call someone out, they can respond with a first class effort. So Kym responded with this this. It's different but the playlist needed some heat and this one definately has it.

Some strong language in a couple of songs, but nothing you haven't read on this site. It will be a great way to start hump day.

Tuesday Tunes 8/25/09

I haven't done a playlist for a while now. I did have a contest winner a few weeks ago who hasn't sent me anything yet. I'm not going to say any names but you can check out her great blog here.

I was going to make a list of great songs from 1988. That's the year I left the Center of the Universe to begin my academic career at the greatest institution of higher learning west of the Mississippi. I began to peruse top 100 lists from that year and quickly realized one thing, 1988 sucked for music. I try for a minimum of 12 songs but my target number is 14. I had looked at the top 50 and had written three down. THREE!! And one of those was a U2 song so you know how desperate I was.

I quickly let the creative juices start flowing, as much of them as you need when you have the world wide interweb at your disposal and went "hmmm, how about songs with the word 'night' in the title" and whalah today's playlist was born. Actually a pretty good compilation if I don't mind saying so myself. You'll notice that there are no Eagles songs on this list yet again. Was that intentional I wonder? Bob Seger and the BeeGees are both on here twice, yet the Eagles don't make the list. It would appear that there is some sort of conspiracy to keep them from being heard. Some mischief may be afoot to deny the Eagles some playing time.

Its pretty simple really. If you want to hear the Eagles, tune into any FM station that plays music from 1988 and earlier and you will enough to make you puke. As far as my playlists are concerned, well the only way they will get air time is if a certain contest winner puts them on there and at the rate that's going, that won't happen.

Anyway, enjoy this and I'll try not to wait so long til the next one.

Tuesday Tunes 7/21/09

After spending the past two weekends with lots and lots of friends I thought that this week's playlist would best be served with a list of songs about being a friend.

I love women so here's a playlist for the ladies out there.

Tuesday Tunes 6/30/09

I needed some fresh ideas for the playlist to I went to my co-worker Dave for help. Dave's been with us about 5 years now. He's a great hand and he knows his 80's music. So I asked him to come up with some songs and I would make him famous. These are just some hits from the 80's and he covers a lot of ground from some classics to some other songs that you will remember. So give a click and have a listen.

PS
Kym, contact me through my email. You were last week's winner and I'd love to have you come up with a list.

Tuesday Tunes 6/23/09

Last week my sister celebrated her 50th birthday so in her honor I am playing hits from 1977 when she graduated from Malta High School. Her nickname when we were kids was "Scooch". She hates it so I named the playlist, "Hits for Scooch". Guest DJaying next week to the first person who can tell me which song on this list is my favorite. Limit two guesses per person. Give a click here and enjoy some music from the greatest decade of music ever. Hmmm, conspciously absent from this list are any Eagles songs. Why is that? Oh, thats right, I'm tired of listening to them.

Also, for you out of staters who follow the shallow, mindless ramblings of a deranged almost cowboy from the northern Montana plains, you can click here to look at the empire I help dominate in Southwest Montana. I work in the Bozeman location. Headquarters as it were. My office is what many call the "Central Nervous System" of the entire operation. No, I'm not a control freak. Not at all.

I had frost on my window this morning. You know what I liked about that? Not a goddam thing! Here's some pics I took on my drive to work this morning. Enjoy your day.

Tuesday Tunes 6/16/09

I've been a lazy slug of a blogger lately. My Tuesday Tunes theme is 1992. It was a great year. I graduated from my beloved alma mater with an "F" on my transcript that is still there. An "F" in a pass/fail that I refused to do. DO YOU HEAR ME CHRIS LAMB?! I wouldn't write your worthless mean nothing fucking POS "what I did at the career fair" paper if you put a gun in my mouth. You could kiss my ass then and you can still kiss my ass. Not that it affected my steller GPA but still.

So anyway here we are. Well 1992 wasn't a great year for music but I did manage to find a few songs worthy of my high standard of musical taste. So have a listen and think back to the sunny slopes of long ago. Still had beautiful brown hair then. Quarter beers at the Rockin R Bar that blew up this winter. Boot night at the Sundance which is now a casino. Saturday beers at Little John's which is now Mixers. What the hell has happened to my old drinking joints?

Tuesday Tunes 6/2/9

OK, I've been a bit of a slacker on the ol' blog the last week. I'm going to try to make up for that. I have a road trip (#3) to post. I also did some minor landscaping at my little townhouse. I'm heading to Ft. Benton, home of Old Shep, to play golf with one of the greatest men on the planet, Skeets Nehemiah Leader. Yes, its already time for the Steamboat Classic Two Man Best Ball at the Signal Point Golf Course. Of course, I'll be bloging about that later next week.

So here's this week's playlist. A Butte Girl gave me the idea. She told me to find songs that are featured in commercials and so, being a man of few original ideas of his own, I gladly decided to do it.

For a nice list of songs used in commercials check out this link. I took everything from here for my playlist so thanks to them for their hard work. God, I frickin love the internet.

BTW, you know what I like about getting up on June 2 with an air temp of 45 degrees and a stiff north wind making it fell like 30 (OK 40)? Not a goddam thing!!!!

(Yes, this is the same picture perfect takeaway I will be using this weekend. Its textbook I tellya!)

Tuesday Tunes 5/19/09

I put this together when I was more than a little pissed off (see my previous post) so here's a bunch of sad songs. I wanted to do a sad song list anyway and this just gives me an excuse. The thing about these songs is that they are all huge hits. Alone again naturally was Billboards #1 song for 1972. FOR THE YEAR!! He stopped loving her today is in the top five of all time country songs ever and if you don't believe that then you have a big dump in your pants. Sad, depressing songs. Well, enjoy!

Here's to you Australia!!!

You have to like Australia. First they have a pretty cool flag. Not as cool as ours but hey, who does?

They have this really cool rock.

And any place that produces the likes of Elle Macpherson is first rate in my book. They scary thing is there are plenty more where this came from. Yowzah!!

So give a listen and enjoy some of Australia's best contemporary music performers. At least in my humble opinion.

Tuesday Tunes 4/28/09

Last week was groups with numbers in their names. The Prodigy kind of got carried away with some of the groups I omitted and in my humble opinion the only group of note that I missed was .38 Special. Apologies.

This list includes "One" by Three Dog Night and "Two Divided by Love" by the Grassroots. Two of my favorite songs with numbers in the titles.
So here it is. Enjoy.

The trifecta quiz for this week. MHS graduates cannot compete.

#1 - Name the song that got me so wound up before my wrestling match that you were all but counting the lights in the first period.

#2 - Of all the artists on this list, which group do I think has the coolest name?

#3 - For all of you who read at least regularly, which song didn't I get to hear in Vegas?

Answers before 5 PM MDT.

Tuesday Tunes 4/14/09

Did a little meme thing. All songs or artists begin with the letter "c". Troll, I haven't forgotten about you being the big contest winner from last week. Just haven't gotten with you to see what you want to do.

Tuesday Tunes 4/7/09

Why 1985? In the immortal words of Bluto from Animal House "burrrrrrrp. why not?" I bought my first house then, I had beautiful brown hair. Sigh. I was making $5.50 an hour and thought I had the world by the nuts. My how things have changed. I think Jen Haley from Whitehall graduated that year. Anyway, there is a song on this list that was (is possibly still) my self proclaimed theme song. The first person to respond in the comments section correctly can pick the them for next week's list. Hell, you can send me the list and I'll find the songs.

What's that you say? That sounds like you would be doing all the work for my blog. That can't be right. Ssssshhh. Just read the words and do as they say. Pay no attention to the man behind the keyboard.
