Movie Clip Wednesday - Animation

Heeeeeeeeeey! Whats happening kids?  I took a few days off.  I did nothing.  I drank beer and whiskey.  Watched some March Madness and NCAA wrestling, some pool and our nation lose what was left of its financial independence.  I only turned on my computer once and really didn't miss it.  Oh, and I watched season one of "24" in almost the same amount of time as the title.  I'll get into that at another time.  Loved it but there's some stuff there that I need to bitch about.  It's who I am.

This week's theme per our great host Boxer is animation.  Boxer say's she is not a great fan of animation then went out and found an awesome post.  Me, well I love cartoons. I'm glad she is limiting this to movies because if it were open to television I'd have about a gazillion Bugs Bunny cartoons on here.  Anyway this is from Kill Bill Volume 1.  Its less than a minute but the other clips related to this scene were six minutes or longer so I played by the rules and kept it short.  Some of my lifelong friends will find it hard to believe that this movie is in my top 10.  I just find it very entertaining.  Is it the Godfather?  Hell no, but Tarantino is a master of writing dialogue.  Happy MCW!

Obamacare saves money? Reeeeeeallly!

OK  so this is from Senator Judd Gregg the ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee and it explains the CBO report in detail  Here's a shocker.  Nancy Cakeface and the President are lying.  Here is the link for the article that appears below.  I couldn't copy the last page which shows the bottom line and that this thing in NO WAY reduces the deficit.

For Immediate Release March 18, 2010

Budget Perspective: The Real Deficit Effect of the Health Bill

 Deficit increase of $582 billion over first ten years.

 Deficit increase of $1.6 trillion over second ten years.

 What do Democrats say about the Senate-passed health bill that the House is about to vote on? They say that, according to CBO, their bill reduces the deficit by $118 billion in the first ten years (and by $812 billion from 2020-2029, although CBO does not actually estimate that figure; instead, CBO provides only a ballpark estimate that the net change in the deficit would be from 0.25-0.50 percent of GDP over those 10 years).

 CBO says a lot of other important things in its 28-page cost estimate. Boiling down the budgetary effect of this massive bill into just one number, as the Democrats do, is a misleading exercise.

When do you drop a facebook friend?

When I went home for the all-class reunion in Malta this past summer, I had more than a few people tell me I needed to join facebook.  Personally I think face book is a little Gary without the "r" but I did it anyway.  "Its the only way I communicate" was the biggest reason everyone was on it. It's a stupid way to communicate IMO but hey to each their own.  Anyway, I joined so that I could stay in touch with some of these folks.  I figured that if this was the only way they communicated that I'd better so that I can stay in touch.  Too many good people I haven't seen and I certainly didn't want to drift again.

After joining, I started receiving "friend" requests and took most of them.  So here's the deal.  I had this girl I knew in college friend me.  We barely knew each other.  Played co-ed softball on spring but she is good friends with another girl from college that I love like a sister and I'm sure we were suggested blah, blah, blah.  So this chick is all pro-health care.  That's fine.   We all want reform, just not this bill. She is posting plenty of lies information from the pro-health care crowd and there is some very polite exchanges from friends of hers that see things a different way, me being one of those.  In my defense, I have been very polite and gentile in my criticism.  I don't think facebook is the place to have an aggressive debate with stupid other people who think that different.  Not a heated debated anyway.  You can certainly have a fun time taking swipes at one another but not get seriously heated and I did not.  Actually, I only commented on three different "threads" or whatever they are called on facebook.  I tried to find my last post but it had been removed.  But this is where it gets really interesting.  I can no longer comment on her page.  I can comment on everyone elses age so I'm assuming she's block me from commenting.  I can still access her page and read all of her posts but I can't add my two cents.

So this is the question: if this "friend" is so fragile that she can't or doesn't want anyone elses opinion on her page that is different from her own and we aren't and never have been close do I just unfriend her or shrug and roll with it?

By the way, I'm linking this blog post on my facebook page.  Sometimes I just ask for trouble.

Movie Clip Wednesday 3/17/10 - Uncas

Here's this week's contribution. The death of Uncas. I love this scene. The touch on his father's shoulder as he leaves to head of Magua. There is no fear in Uncas. The hand to hand fight with Magua is incredible. You can tell after the first exchange that Uncas is shocked that he's been wounded. Yet, further in and mortally wounded, he continues to fight to save Alice.

It was a tough choice as the death of Duncan and the defeat of Magua are both great scenes as well. Duncan giving his life for Cora at the end so that she can be with Hawkeye is awesome. The quickest tournaround from douchebag to super stud in movie history.

Here is the death of Uncas. Its a little bit of a montage set to the music of "Promentory" which is the best song on the soundtrack. Happy MCW.

What's in it for Harry Reid?

Here's a question as Congress gets ready to pass this abomination of legislation disguised as health care "reform".  What's in it for Harry Reid?  A man of less principle is hard to find in DC.  One would have to go all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to find a man of less moral conviction.  Harry Reid is a career politician and the Senate Majority leader.  He is also trailing every republican candidate in Nevada for re-election.  Not one.  EVERY one.  All four.  Is it just me or does this strike anyone else as odd?  I mean, this guy is going to give not only his Senate seat, but his position as the leader of the Senate.  All for health care "reform".  Are we to believe that this man has that much conviction on the issue of health care "reform".

I'm sorry but I'm not buying it.  Let's check back here this time next year and see what Harry is doing.  I guaranfuckingtee it will be making lots and lots of money for something tied to health care "reform".  Guys like Harry don't leave jobs like that of a U.S. Senator, especially as Majority Leader, if they aren't going to make lots of money.  Hell, Tom Daschle even had dead Indians voting twice for him he was so desperate to keep his seat.  This entire bill is prime for corruption and the erosion of our system as we know it and Harry will be making lots of money.

I wonder how many sob stories there will be after the government takes over our health care industry as compared to the absolute bullshit these spineless pukes, better know as Democrats, have been pulling out lately. Get ready America.  We are about to become a firs-rate, second-rate nation.

And yet, more health care.

Moi over at Bite the Apple has written an excellent piece on the health care debate.  I've linked it here.  It's awesome.

It's well worth the read but if you're pressed for time here's the last paragraph:

Anyway. I don't see how you can crack the barn door and not expect the horses to do nothing more than stick the points of their noses through. We either decide we are a country individuals free to make our own way, free to take responsibility for our lives and those of our families and loved ones, free to ask for help and free to give it, OR we decide we are a country of victims who in lieu of striving and creating, demand to have everything handed to us and enslave ourselves and our neighbors in order to do so.

I don’t see any in between. If you do, tell me. I’d love to know what it is.

Well done Moi.  Well done.

They're remaking "True Grit"

So, I was doing a little snooping today about True Grit.  Karl had asked me how the scene I posted ends as it cuts away before we see what happens.  I'm pretty sure Glen Campbell shoots Duval.  Anyway, the Coen's are remaking True Grit. Are they fucking crazy?  I don't give a rats ass what this review says.  You can't remake this movie and do better than the original.  Hollywood hasn't done it yet.  Further proof that Hollywood is full of a bunch of lazy fuck-alls.  Don't know yet if I will go.  Jeff Bridges as Rooster? Matt Damon as La Bouf? Josh Brolin as Tom Cheney?  Hmmmm, good actors all but find me a bigger bunch of wusses (the greater DC  area excluded).

I did find some videos for the auditions for Mattie Ross.  They were fun to watch.

I mean really.  Why mess with this movie?  You know what else is going to piss me off to the point of wanting to kick someone right in their wedding tackle?  Here it is.  When this movie is released, some jackass reviewer is going to be quoted as saying "better than the original" and "Bridges IS Rooster Cogburn".  I will hunt him down like gut shot mule deer and beat his eye teeth back into his uvula.  Just sayin.

Zac is blogworthy.

This past weekend my friend Skeets' son Zac came off the bench in the state class "C" championship game to give his team a little spark.  With the Big Sandy Pioneers down 7, freshman Zac nailed 3 three-pointers, defended his opponents best player and got his team back in the game.  They eventually won 51-49.

I've known Skeets for a while now.  We started kindergarten together.  Graduated from Malta together.  I've been his best man twice, the last time 18 years ago.  Though he lives 240 miles away we talk almost every day.  Its one of the great benefits of the 21st century.  His son Zac and I have always had a great relationship.  When Skeets has been in town for golf tournaments or business, Zac and I have a great time playing cards or catching a movie or just hanging out.  A great, great kid.  When BG met Zac this summer, she was very impressed when he stuck out his hand, looked her in the eye and said "nice to meet you".  His sister Brook did the same.  They are bright, funny, well mannered.  I don't get to see them enough.

Make no mistakes about this game Saturday.  It was indeed a team effort.  I told Zac after he didn't play Friday night to be ready.  You never know when your number will be called.  His dad kept him calm and told him the same thing. When the kid got his chance, he responded like a superstar.

After the game he came up to me and said "Thanks for watching me Chip".  He said it so calmly, like he hadn't just been the hero in the biggest game of his young life. Like he had just finished a JV game. Its confidence and humility.  I feel lucky that I know this kid.  Have fun watching the video below.  Zac is #24 in your program, #1 with the Big Sandy fan base Saturday night.

Sidenote for you non-Montanans:  There are barely one million people in the entire state yet you could drop Oklahoma in the middle of Montana and never touch the sides.  That's not to slight you Okies, its just to give you an idea how bid Montana is.  Big Sandy has a total high school enrollment of 54.  They play schools of similar enrollment and class "C" is our smallest designation.  Its still cool to be the best, no matter what class.

I'm having trouble embedding the video so click here for the link to the Billings Gazette highlight.  Its 1:23 long.  Skeets asked me yesterday, "so, is this blogworthy?"  I could hear him smiling on the phone.  Yes, your goddam right it is.

The one where I compare Obama to Idi Amin

I have decided that from now until the end of Barry's reign of terror, that I will write at least one letter-to-the-editor per month.  I will title them like an episode of Friends.  I am far from happy at the course that this very incapabale man is leading our beloved nation.  My question is this, if he hates America so much, why does he choose to live here?  The money?  Yeah, that's it.

The letter to which I am responding is linked here.  (Note, did have some problems with this link so it may or may not work.)

Letter is after the jump.

Judgeship's for sale

Click here for a Weekly Standard article where Obama is selling judge positions for votes on health care.  Stay classy Barry!

Movie Clip Wednesday - most funny scene

I could have put up 30 different movie scenes. The most funny though? That's a tough one. I chose the court scene from Animal House. Such a great speech by Otter. Cool under pressure.

"The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules or took a few liberties with our female party guests. We did." *wink at Dean Wermer.

"I put it to you Greg!"

"Well, you can do what you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you bad mouth the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! GENTLEMEN!"

"Faithfull submitted Douglas C. Niedermeyer, Sergeant at Arms"

PS I'm so pissed that I couldn't find the "double secret probation" scene.

Your Monday Morning Calvin

I make no promises that I'll do this every Monday but here's something to start your week.  (This isn't quite original how the original appeared but funny nonetheless.)
