MCW Favorite movie from the 1930's

Well, well, well it's time for another edition of Movie Clip Wednesday.  About this time a year ago, one of the malcontents known as anonymous boxer began a meme wherein a theme is chosen and we followers of said meme find a clip of about three minutes, post it on our blogs and then go to Boxer's place and let it be known that we are up and participating.

At some point, I "temporarily" took the reigns as Boxer had matters to attend and have been in charge ever since.

For most of my charge, MCW has often resembled the following video.

Other times, this was the reaction on the Eastern seaboard, when themes where posted on Monday.

The biggest mistake I think I made is not having enough themes for Diane Lane movies.  There is no one to blame but myself. I say all of this because until my services are needed again, Boxer has resumed duties.  I've had a blast these past few months.  I know that every shot taken at me was A) well deserved and B) in the best of fun.  I'd like to thanks Boxer for trusting me with the charge of her meme for this long.  If I ever get to the PNW, it will be fresh fish and the alcohol of your choice on me.  I'd also like to thank all of you for continuing to participate while waiting ever so patiently for Boxer's return.  It was very fun.

This week's meme was an attempt to continue on with the decades theme we started.  Favorite movies of the 1930's.  I'm very disappointed that I've seen so few.  It did make the choice easy.  Though I've had a post of this movie before (I think), I still put it in my top five of greatest movies ever made.  This scene from All Quiet on the Western Front Paul returns to his old classroom to describe what the war is like, and to tell the young men to stay home.  This movie is spectacular in so many ways.  The ravages of World War I were portrayed very well especially given that this movie was made in 1930, only three years after the first movie with sound was released ("talkies" my sister calls them.  She is still upset that vaudeville is dead and hates Victrola players.) Put it in your Netflix que.

It also has one of the best endings ever.

Oh and Boxer if you ever need me again, you know what to do.

Hi Madman.
I've bought a note from the empress excusing my absence for the past few weeks. What with Floods Hurricanes and more Floods and then Bush Fires
I've been a little overwhelmed... But I'm back up this week.
You have been a great host Thank you.

There is nothing like a European Roadrace crash medley to make a point. Bwahahaha I know I road you hard and put you away wet a time or two, but that's just because I love you man. Thanks for hosting.

All Quiet on the Western Front is a great movie. I liked the original better than the TV one with Richard Thomas and...wait for it...the guy who is in every war picture...Ernest Borgnine.

I'm up at the Buzzkill with a fitting movie for todays change of command.

I'll be around tonight to visit all.

Happy MCW and and a big sloppy kiss for the Madman.

Madman,
I was all set to applaud your hosting skills until I was assaulted with the vision of the purple horror on the park bench. Now I will curse you through a day of flash backs.

As you know, I don't participate in this meme but try to be a good rah-rah for those who do. I am not a movie buff so have little to contribute.

But once upon a year I took a class in cultural influence and that particular educator believed strongly the movies of 1939 collectively solved lifes great mysteries.
The classics were big, The Hounds of the Baskervilles, Wuthering Heights, there was Wizard of Oz Three Musketeers, Sherlock , Frankenstein, Gunga Din, Stage Coach, Beau Geste, Mr Chips and Mr. Lincoln.
Having impact on cultures world wide were The Wizard of Oz and Gone With The Wind.

I must say Madman,
you are passing the reel with a perfect exit. Bravo!

Happy Birthday MRM! Hope you had a good one. I think your hosting duties were wonderful and subject selection has been great. You are a fine Robin to Boxie's Batman! Or other way around. However you want to look at it. Anyway, haven't seen this movie but this clip is VERY powerful. But I love the car crashes and the little old lady "pushing" the parade car. Ha. I'll be up later today. Again, happy bday and how's things going with you know who?

JC,
My skills were sorely. Well put. HAHAHA

BK,
I laughed everytime you took a shot. It almost became a part of the meme. "hmmm, let me see what the latest I can post a theme is to make Buzz say something" Nothing but good times.

Fishy,
You have no idea how long I had to look to find that photo. I've only used it once before yesterday and that is when I first started blogging so most of you have never seen it. It's for special occasions only.

Thank you for your kind and eloquent words. Very appreciated.

Moi,
Yes, another year went kicking and screaming into the past. Had a great night. Friend JK had his on the 5th and friend Swanny has his today. Mine just happened to fall on 2 for 1 night at our favorite haunt. How lucky is that? As I'm not much of a candy or cake guy, virtual sweets are readily accepted. Thank you.

Pam,
I'll find another clip to send you. It's the one Paul refers to in his speech when the same teacher encouraged him to enlist. It will help this one make sense.

Things with whatshername are no different then when we last spoke. That's not a bad thing. Still spend a lot of time with her. Snowmobile with her every weekend, but like my choice for this week's them its "All Quiet on the BG Front."

I'm sorry I didn't play for your last hosting of MCW. I'm just pants.

But you did a great job honey.

Well done you.

Pam,
Which photo? Oh, and check your FB messages. I'm sending over that other clip.

Roses!!
No apology necessary. I don't ever expect anyone to be all things to all people. Afterall, we are all human in our own way. HAHAHAHA. Stole that from a Seinfeld episode.
