MCW Best Broadway Musical to the big screen.

Welcome to Movie Clip Wednesday.  This is hosted by Boxer.  To get the rules and to find out what everyone else has going on go to Anonymoust Boxer and check it out.

This week's theme is best broadway musical made into a movie. I could have went with Oklahoma, or Music Man, or any other number of moives my mom made us watch when we only had two channels but not for this. I went with a movie I totally love and that is Grease.  There is no question that I still have the hots for Olivia.  Why wouldn't I?  Aussie chicks are smoking hot.  I'm a man who is about to rejoin the dating world and I think she may be on the market.  Finally, things are going my way. It's my big chance and I don't want to use some corny line when I first meet her.  So what better way to break the ice than tell her I wrote about her in a blogpost.  It's not like it's stalking or anything.

MRM "Olivia, it's a pleasure to meet you.  I wrote a blogpost about you for a movie clip Wednesday theme."

ONJ "What, because Diane Lane wasn't in a musical."

MRM (coughing uncomfortably but yet remaining suprisingly cool) "Well, techinically she was in Streets of Fire but the theme was best Broadway musical so that didn't qualify. And that's really not her singing."

ONJ "Soooo, I was your first choice."

MRM (God, she's actually buying this crap) "Yes.  And I've always like the name Olivia aaaaaaaand  Please Mr Please  is one of my all time favorites.  I've never played B17 on any jukebox out of respect for that song."

ONJ "Laying it on pretty thick. Don't you think?"

MRM "No, I really mean that...........I have no shot do I?"

ONJ " None whatsoever.  The Diane Lane love kind of ruined it."

MRM "Well, thanks for reading my blog."

ONJ "You didn't think Princess was the only one in Australia reading now did you?"

Here's to you Olivia.  *sigh

BTW, in keeping with my sometimes mini-theme of where I watched this movie for the first time, it was at the drive-in theater in Kalispell, MT when I was on vacation with my best friend's familiy.  Fishing in the mountains in the middle of bear country with not a care or worry in the world about what I would do if I met one.  Being young and dumb.  Those were the days.

I also included a clip here of Carl Anderson singing Jesus Christ Superstar.  Just because I like the song and his voice is pretty good.  Happy MCW.  Welcome back Boxer.

Hey Madman,
I put the lovely Livvy onto you blog you know... We were sharing a quiet houseboy over a hot drink... no.. that didn't come out right.
Grease... A great show and a pivotal moment in Olivia's career. The black cat suit sent her from Girl next-door to sexy hot momma...
Great choice.
PS. she phoned me wanting your number

Remember how I wished to be single and living in the mountains? Yeah, well - I take that back.

I love the songs from Grease and when my kids were younger, this was one of their favorite videos. Although you have to question the judgement of a parent who lets his kids watch a movie that advocates the beautiful, wholesome girl-next-door turning into a $2 dollar whore to get her man. But I digress.

Streets of Fire should have been made into a broadway show. I'd go see it although the people in the front rows would probably get burned up or shot.

And I remember seeing Jeasus Christ Supestar at a middleschool class trip. The Catholic school I attended had a theater right accross the street. My buddy sitting next to me fell asleep and he woke up in the middle of the crucifiction scene and freaked out in the theater. Oh the memories.

Happy MCW!

Princess,
You gave her my number!! Right? Say yes. I remember Olivia having a concert on HBO back in the early 80's. I must have watched it 20 tmes.

Buzz,
I went to the 20th anniversary of Grease in the theater. There were some young girls (14-15) sitting a couple of rows in front of me. One girl was a huge fan. From her parents I suppose. The other two hadn't seen it. In the middle of Travolta singing "Sandy", the girl who was the fan jumps up and starts singing with him. It was so cool. She embarrassed her friends but got a round of applause from the rest of us.

Who cares about the clip, the conversation between you and ONJ is priceless! I had totally forgotten about that dreadful jukebox song. Holy moly, thank goodness for that, but now that I have remembered, will I be able to forget it again! Argh. Oh well, good luck with Olivia and/or Diane.

Bwahahahah to Buzz. What? Real men can't like GREASE?

I saw it in the theater in 1978 and was enchanted. It's the kind of movie I'll stop and watch if I'm flipping channels and it happens to be on.

Happy MCW!

I did not know Grease was on Broadway before film. I think my high school homies and I saw this eleventy jillion times when it first came out. Loved it. Bought the soundtrack. Played it until it wore out. Sigh. Those were the days: when no one knew that John Travolta was really just one great big weirdo.

So, how you feeling today, your first minus the reins of MCW?

Olivia was just delicious in that film. I think I fancied her more than John T :)

Moi,
I'm fine with Boxer being in charge. She's a born leader.

JC,
No one should blame you for that.

looking back on this movie should settle the scientology gheyness of one mr john travolta. if that dont work, i submit to you, saturday nigh fever. and top gun. im with buzz i was very distressed by ONJ's final black vinyl cat suit. but the frizzing out of her once shiny straight hair was as terrifying as "carrie" - my high school movie of all time.

my favorite scene is when Cha Cha s.mugly says she is the best danca at saint burn. a dette. at the tv dance contest.

good choice. happy MCW. i couldnt get it together today to play, but am enjoying everybody elses entries.

My Uncle in his drunken lamentations would always end with the line

"Olivia Newton John... She's as fine as a summers breeze"

Just before passing out...

Chickory,
there are too many good scenes but I think my favorite line is at the pep rally when the coach says "and then we can come back and ring that victory bell. Like we've always wanted to." Great subtle humor.

Princess,
sounds like your uncle and I have more than one thing in common.
