Movie Clip Wednesday "Favorite Coming of Age Movie" This is for you Shoey!

Hello and welcome to the famous blog theme/meme/whatever it really is MOVE CLIP WEDNESDAY! Started by Boxer sometime ago I've been given the keys to the city and it's been a ticker tape parade of great theme's ever since.  Well, as long as you're asking me anyway.   Most of you know how it works but if you're new here (for which I greatly thank you) here's how it works. A theme is picked each week. You choose a movie to fit the theme and find a clip, preferably three minutes or less, and post it on your blog. Announce in the comment section of this post that you are up and we'll come and pay you a visit. It's simple really. If you are looking for the theme it's usually posted under the MCW banner on the right side of my drivel by Thursday

This could have gone a lot of ways for me. There are the obvious choices of  Stand by Me and The Breakfast Club.  Ferris Bueller also can fit this category. My unabashed love for Diane Lane could have made me pick The Outsiders or even the underrated Six Pack. However, just picking a movie because I want a Diane Lane clip seems to be a little on the creepy side.  Even for me.  When I saw this category suggested by Moi  I immediately went back to my youth and remembered a great movie.  I remember going to it with Shoey.  It was a big deal because Shoey's dad actually let him go to a movie on a school night.  That just never happened.  The night when we returned home, Shoey's dad asked him what the movie was about.  Shoey replied "It's about a kid who can't figure out what he wants to do with his life and get's a bunch of shit from his dad. Just like me."  Classic answer and I never forgot it.  There are some good Shoey stories out there that all of us Malta boys know about Shoe and his dad that might be worth telling someday.  I'll have to think on that.

Without further ado, I present to you the 1979 classic Breaking Away.  Enjoy and thanks for playing.  Incidently, Shoey turned out just fine.  Graduated from Montana State and went on to get his MBA at Gonzaga, so, he figured out what he wanted to do.   He made his dad Jim proud before Jim left us much to soon.

Thanks for playing. I'll have another theme that I probably didn't choose up by Thursday under the MCW banner.  Enjoy.

Good evening MRM,

I missed this one. Enjoyed the line " I'm not going anywhere, oh it looks like you are."

I'm up, I went back into my comfort zone.

Enjoy your clip day! And may the returns be as entertaining as I hope them to be.

Hey Madman,
I like the look of this choice tho I don't think it was released here in Australia otherwise I would have remembered it...
I'm Up at "The Palais" with something a little more recent...
Happy MCW.

Oh goodness! I barely remember this one. I know I saw it (drive-in?) but obviously it is time for a re-watch. What a great and unexpected choice. I had you figured for Ferris.

You're doing a great job with MCW and I really appreciate it. I think you've actually done it longer than I ever did. :-) GREAT theme this week. I never saw BREAKING AWAY (not sure why) but this clip makes me think I should put it on my list.

What's the theme for next week? Bwahahah. I'm so very lame. And appreciative of the fact you've carried my torch during a rough Summer. Thank you!

I love this movie. The kids from the wrong side of the track (the Cutters) take on the Italian Race team. It was a little creepy how the lead character (played by Dennis Christopher) spoke Italian all the time because he was so obsessed with the Itatian team. A lot of teenage anxiety and a movie I haven't thought about in a long time.

Interestingly the father in this movie also played the father in Sixteen Candles (Paul Dooley). He reminds me a lot of Tom Bosley. I'm up at the Buzzkill and I'm moving in stereo.

I'll be around later to visit.

Happy MCW!

I find the differences in the "coming of age" selections between the men and women participants .... enlightening!

Like the other girls, I missed this one but certainly can see how
it resonated.

I am a true Southern woman so of course the best all time coming of age movie is:
Gone With The Wind.
It is so easy to forget Scarlett was just 16 when she dressed in the green sprigged muslin to go to the Tarletons barbecue.
I assume no clips are necessary
:-)

Karl, should have known you'd have some swashbuckling adventure.

Princess, it really is a good movie. All those guys are so young.

Pam, I think I've used Ferris, but like I said, I read this suggestion and this was my first thought.

Boxer, put it on your list. Very worth it. Next week's theme already? You're killing me Smalls.

BK, I thought the best part of the movie was when the Italians come to town and show him their true colors. That was the "reality" moment.

Fishy, What is this "Gone With the Wind" movie of which you speak. I seem to vaguely have heard of this.

How cool that you chose one of my suggestions! And here I am, work loaded in the rain and drizzle of north Louisiana, and unable to play. But I'll try to get by to everyone regardless.

GREAT choice, by the way. Happy MCW!

I never saw this but thoroughly enjoyed your story of shoey, the smart ass who turned out good. Happy MCW!!

Moi, really?

K9, Shoey sent me a text and said if I told one certain story he'd burn my house down. hahahahha

Is your house still standing?

Wonderful!!

Never seen it, but think I should. Like PamOKC, I figgered ya fer Ferris Bueller too.

These clips put me in the mind to ask y'all if ya thinks it be tougher fer a girl or a fella to come of age?

No matter--what we all wanna know is when the Shoey stories will start?? (Hey thar' Shoey--doan be shy, now--after all, how many Shoey's ya reckon live in Malta??? besides, ya can always set up yore own blog an' do a wee leetle payback to Milk River!!)

Good theme. I tried Crown Whiskey for the first time a few weeks ago.
About 2 ounces in ice. Probably drank it too slowly, but it was good.

Fishy, still standing. I don't sweat anything Shoey says. Besides, he lives in Syndey and that's over 470 miles from here. I have way more spite in me than Shoe and I wouldn't drive that far to burn down my ex-wife's house. Just sayin.

Aunty, I might have a Shoey story or two in me that I can tell without fear of reprisal.

Troll, look what the cat dragged in. How was the vacation. You probably didn't drink it too slow. I probably drink it too fast. Glad you're back. Your assinment is to write a 10,000 word essay and what you've been doing since you left.
