MCW Favorite Buddy Movie

It's time once again for the most widely read meme on the blogosphere, Movie Clip Wednesday.   /loyals readers respond by pounding on their space bars.  It's internet applause. Each week loyal readers of the drivel stop by to see what mediocre theme long worded theme I've come up with to challenge their collective movie related skills.

Started by Boxer back in the long ago, the torch was passed to me here at MRM Headquarters.  Although the flame has been close to extinguised, it manages to come to life just in time for you to play along.  Most of you know how it works but if you're new here (for which I greatly thank you) here's how it works. A theme is picked each week. You choose a movie to fit the theme and find a clip, preferably three minutes or less, and post it on your blog. Announce in the comment section of this post that you are up and we'll come and pay you a visit. It's simple really. If you are looking for the theme it's usually posted under the MCW banner on the right side of my drivel by Thursday.

This week's theme is favorite "Buddy Movie". I know what I'm expecting from Karl, but don't want to blog jinx him.  I have a good idea about where Buzz may go but after that I'm wide open with anticipation as to what the rest of you may bring.

I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty happy with this week's choice.  Lot's of great buddy movie's out there.  Hell, almost every cop movie is a buddy movie, even Lone Wolf McQuade had kind of a partner.  I have a few I'm going to list.  I'm only going to leave a couple of clips up but I'll link the other ones.

In my opinion, the 80's gave us some great buddy movies.  Stripes immediately comes to mind as well as Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I decided to go a little outside the box.

First is one of my all time favorite's My Favorite Year.  Peter O'Toole was nominated for best actor in this and he is fantastic.  Here's a link to a great scene where O'Toole is hammered trying to help his young accomplice get the woman of his dreams.  This clip is 6 minutes but worth the watch.  The subliminal humor in this flick is top notch.  I've watched it with many people who don't get it but then my humor is kind of sophisticated.  Just sayin.

Here's a short clip form MFY

Next I'm going to link you to "Night Shift". This stars Henry Winkler and Michael Keaton in his first starring role.  "I'm an idea man Chuck."  Still one of my favorite lines.  Billy Blaze "We've got teenage girls in here."  This really catapulted Keaton.  From here he went on to Mr. Mom, Johhny Dangerously and of course Beetlejuice.  I found the clip of Keaton's stand up while doing my research.  By the way, the bit about Bazooka Joe is gold, Jerry, gold.

I did go with a cop/buddy movie but it's not one that gets the accolades it should.  My feature clip is from Running Scared starring Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal.  I know!  Who would have put these two guys together in a cop movie of all things.  They are funny as shit as well as being believable.   6'3" guys with no sense of comedic timing would have made this a horrible movie.  Instead, it makes me want to buy a copy.  Or join Netflix which I can't remember who recommended to me but thanks for bringing me into the 21st century.  I was a member about 5-6 years ago and totally spaced them out.

Anyway, enjoy and watch this if you get a chance.

Happy MCW.

Haven't thought about Night Shift in a long time. Funny movie and I like the party in the morgue scene with the Van Halen blasting - classic. Not sure I agree with My Favorite Year as a "buddy movie" per say but it was funny.

I myself considered choosing Running Scared. I'm not a big Billy Crystal fan, but he and Gregory Hines were hysterical in this.

I'm up at the Buzzkill with a movie that should be a father's training film and also a favorite of all of you "Glee" fanatics. Bwahaha

I'll come around later tonight to visit everyone.

Happy MCW!

Good morning MRM,

Peter O'Toole should have won the Oscar for My Favorite Year.

I still have a cassette player like that, I use it too. Michael Keaton really is a fine talent. Beetlejuice is one of my favorites.

I saw Running Scared in the theater. I can remember people laughing out loud. Myself included.

I'm up with a couple of buddies, hopefully all catch you off guard.

Neither of those rings any bells with me. I think I've run with the most momentous buddy movie in that it involves so many male on male relationships that run over three films...

Night Shift is just classic. I haven't thought about it in a long time either! I did consider Stripes for the buddy movie, but since it has been on TV too much recently, thought someone else might take it! Anyway, I'm up on my page with an obscure entry. Happy MCW!

All good movies but only 2 buddy movies really should even be considered. Wayne's World which also wins in best SNL spin off category but sadly is only second on my list for buddy movies. In my opinion there really is only one movie to even consider. "Dumb and Dumber" it doesn't get any better than that when considering all time great buddy movies. "Those are some nice Hooters you have!" says it all.
