A sad story gets sadder.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about a tragedy that had occurred in my wonderful home town.  Although I've waited to post this I'd like to keep you all informed and I hope that my old wrestling teammate Sheriff Tom Miller is wrong.

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — Authorities say the case of a 16-year-old boy who was shot while hunting near Malta is being treated as a homicide.

Phillips County Sheriff Tom Miller says Logan Wilson's death does not make sense as a suicide or as an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound. The sheriff says the death will be considered a homicide unless witnesses come forward or ballistics tests clear up what happened.

Authorities say Wilson became separated from two friends he was hunting with on Oct. 23. His companions eventually found him in a field, and he had been shot once in the neck. The Malta boy died at the scene
.
The sheriff's office says one of Wilson's hunting companions has been interviewed but the other has declined to come in for questioning.

I'll update you more as the situation develops.

Very sad. I guess I hope that someone violated MRM's hunting rule #3 rather than it being an intentional homicide. Still sad, though.

They don't even know if the bullet came from the deceased lad's rifle, yet? It seemed from the first report they thought it had.

They sheriff's department reported it as coming from the deceased's rifle but after examing it was determined that his rifle had not even been discharged. My brother says they did that until they could determine for sure what had happened before they accused anyone of being indirectly responsible or of any wrong doing.

Intensely tragic for three families. Tragic for a community.
I'll pray for solid answers, not
lingering question marks.

Odd about the ballistic results.

Good afternoon MRM,

Sounds as if they don't actually have the round. Otherwise they could run the ballistics on all three rifles and know for sure which one the round came from.

It's unfortunate that what may have been a hunting accident, now has a criminal aspect to it.
