MCW "Favorite Sports Movie"

It's MCW. Started by  Boxer a while back, I've been though for a bit now.. Most of you know how it works but if you're new here (for which I greatly thank you) here's how it works. A theme is picked each week. You choose a movie to fit the theme and find a clip, preferably three minutes or less, and post it on your blog. Announce in the comment section of this post that you are up and we'll come and pay you a visit. It's simple really. If you are looking for the theme it's usually posted under the MCW banner on the right side of  the greatest blog in the universe my drivel by Thursday.

I admit I was rushed.  As a matter of fact, if  Troll hadn't reminded me, I would have probably spaced it out and subjected myself to blog banishment.

Anyway, favorite sports movie was pretty tough.  I love sports movies. Heck, I just plain ol love sports.  I'll most anything that I've ever participated in or that has a ball in it whether it's women's 9-ball, bowling or jai alai.  Some sports are boring (everyone immediately thinks "soccer", correctly I might add) but all in all I enjoy them.

While this week's feature isn't my all-time favorite sports movie, this clip is in the top five.  Paul Newman stars in "Slapshot".  A movie about a hockey team about to go belly up.  Too boost attendance, Newman, the team captain comes up with a plan to change the teams image.  He wants them to be brawlers and then he sign's the Hanson Brothers.  In this scene the teams are warming up.  The good parts are at the 1:15 mark and at the end.  Happy MCW.

I have actually seen this movie. And I like it. You know why? It stars Paul Newman. Otherwise, hockey is Greek to me.

I'm up early and will be around to everyone in the a.m.

Happy MCW and thanks once again for hosting!

I've never seen this either. Sports movies aren't my favorite, but I didn't have a hard time coming up with an idea either. Do you need suggestions? I'll think of some and come back. It's the least I can do for the guy who continues to be a fabulous host.

I'm up and Happy Happy MCW AND Thanksgiving!

Good morning MRM,

Good clip, the end was the best part.

JINX ! I saw this movie years ago and loved it. I have a great nephew that plays hockey and it is ruff. when these big padded boys come off the ice and take off their masks and you see they are just pups, you have to go "whoa"

great choice! Happy MCW and happy thanksgiving.

my entry is here

Lots of blokes fighting and Paul Newman - fabulous! I forgot to mention Rollerball, one of the highlights of my teenage years - the music and, ooh, more blokes fighting and a couple of lookers.

Strangely, my actual choice involves neither of these phenomena :)
