No, Islam does not need reformation. Not at all. Terror attacks have only killed over 1,000 people in July and over 300 since the beginning for Ramadan. There have only been 15,900 terror attacks in 60 different countries since 9/11. So Faisal is right. There is absolutely no reformation needed.

reading your posts makes one wonder what will happen when they need to fulfill their religious imperative to behead someone at ground zero?
What exactly does happen when religious law conflicts with the laws of a nation? Seems like we have seen plenty of examples of that around the world. In fact, haven't we sent our aid to other nations to help prevent such barbarism?
I do not like this current slope the media, and their puppeteers, are promoting.

I love how libs and atheists will point out how violent Christianity was 500 years ago. The thing is that so was islam. The difference is that Christianity moved on. Islam has become more violent.
I suppose it's easier to categorize people by religion than to take the time to recognize the shades of grey within. It'll make things much easier now that I know all Christians act in exactly the same way.

What gives you the impression that I'm a Christian? Where in any of my posts do I claim Christianity?
My complaint is how libs villify Christianity and glorify islam. Its quite simple. Atheists loathe Christians yet they turn a blind eye to moslems and islam, shrug their shoulders and THEN want to defend them using the 1st Amendment.
As a man of science, I thought that categories were important to you.
Not all Christians act the exact same way. The two things the modern Christian have in common are their belief in Jesus Christ and the fact that the aren't spreading their religion by strapping bombs to young men and blowing up bar mitzvahs. Other than that, the different strains of Christianity have very different norms.

You got me beat, I saw the post and disagreed with your stance (I still think legitimately =) and threw out an example about Christians, because in this country that is who you are fighting if you want to accomplish much.
The truth is I'm more Agnostic than anything, and I find Christianity as silly as Islam, but you're 100% right in that violent proponents for either religion deserve more of our attention than just the annoying zealots. And, it's a very new balance we are striking in this country seeing as Islam hasn't existed here for long (at least in mass).
To me, stopping the mosque would say more about us than it does about them, and allowing it to be built would be a feather in our collective caps, but I do agree that there is a sensitivity factor that has to be addressed. I would just rather preserve the ideal of egalitarianism than the limited goal of protection of a few square miles of Manhattan, but it is a rough choice.
Chipster - I respect your views and opinions (as always), but I believe that in this case, I believe I don't have a "great" reason to oppose the construction of the Mosque/Community Center in NYC. I tend to agree with George Will on this one.
It comes down to this in my mind:
- The idea of building this facility (whatever you want to call it) so close to Ground Zero is not the brightest idea, but the US Constitution does give its citizens wisdom (as demonstrated by the Darwin Awards)
- The folks who want this facility botched the Public Relations campaign (if there was one -- and there really needed to be one). Again, you cannot make people smart.
- Faisal has, and continues, to say things that fuel explosive emotions... it is like he is taking lessons from Rush Limbaugh and Rev. Al Sharpton.
- EVERYTHING in NYC is close to Ground Zero. Frankly, they could put it on the moon, but because of the ineptitude of "geniuses" promoting the idea, it would probably be controversial there as well.
But... in the end, regardless of the history of events, we need to recognize that we cannot, and should not, discriminate based on religion... that would just make us ignorant.
...even if the idea is poorly conceived and managed.
