Movie Clip Wednesday 4/28/10 "Animals"

This week our glorious host has chose the theme of animals.  I'll give it to  Boxer, she really makes you think. I chose the scene entitled "The Descent" from The Man from Snowy River.  Top five all time movies for me.  I've spent more than a day or two horseback in my life so when I watch this I'm in total awe.  Tom Burlinson, who played Jim Craig in the movie, was the actual rider.  Dude can flat out ride a horse and pop a whip. Denny is the name of the horse for those of you keeping score at home.

"You can bid the mob good day"  Not if you're Jim Craig!

(I think I still have a crush on Sigrid Thornton)

Hey MRM...I know you are going to be my favorite movie clip of the day! Like you, I really like Man From Snowy River and the descent is THE clip to watch. Fab photography, stirring music and the horsemanship!
Perfect selection for any Wednesday.

Fishy, if you watch closely, you can tel that they filmed this twice. TWICE! He jumps over the log and pops his whip, then later its coiled in his hand. Flipping incredible. Rumor that I heard years ago was that after they shot the second take he told them they had enough to make the scene. He wasn't doing it again.

Troll, WTF dude? You've never watched this movie? Its great entertainment. A good story, lots of riding, Kirk Douglas is great. Burlinson is awesome. Sigrid Thornton is hot (still is, I checked her web page). No cussing, a good fight scene, love, drama, comedy, action. It has it all!

What a wonderful clip. I also like the reason you picked and agree with Fishy... it could be my favorite of the day. Nicely done.

Before I read your comment I was thinking that whole scene must have been difficult to film. The begining descent scene reminded me of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Nice choice.

Happy MCW!

Amazing bit of movie-making, isn't it? Beautiful animals. I'm not remembering the story much but I know I have seen the movie. Happy MCW!

P.S. nice previous post about past homes ... really enjoyed that. I may have to do one also

Boxer, all thanks are to you for MCW. I'm having a blast. The biggest problem is finding the clip I want with the weekly theme. I'm kind of anal that way.

Buzz, I was raised on 400 head of cows and spent more time in the saddle than I care to talk about. The rider is great but the horse is AWESOME! Riding downhill fast is one thing. What this animal pulled off is incredible.

Pam, as always thank you for the kind words. Your comments are always so nice and complimentary.

Wow. What more is there to say than that? I've never seen The Man form Snowy River, but I'll fix that asap.

BTW - trying to talk husband into a vacation at Yellowstone. Have you been? Wait. I'm sure you have. Any good tips to share??

What that incredible athletic horse does in Snowy river is beat gravity by perfectly balancing stride and weight distribution. His amazing rider was so finely tuned into his mount and the balance issue he literally has his head on the horses rump to keep his upper body weight back and did you catch the part where his entire leg is behind the girth?

I would love to see a bunch of physics gurus do a computer modeling of this film only to prove the laws of physics lost this one!

Loved your winning dog haiku! A man who loves horses, dogs and likes real movies ... priceless.
