MCW - Best movie that became a hit TV show *blog jinx, blog jinx comin!

Hello devoted followers of the drivel. While our great host and meme creator extradnaire Boxer continues to let me host (begrudgingly to more and more all the time HA) this week's theme is " Best movie that became a hit TV series".  Well, really only one became a hit.  And that one is M*A*S*H.   I had to choose it.  It was my late father's favorite show of all time.  When I left Malta (the Center of the Universe) and would come home, Dad would know when MASH came on and on which channels.  If it was on 4 times a day he knew when and where.  He thought Hawkeye was the greatest. I was a great fan when Trapper and Frank were on but lost interest a little after that.  Not my Dad.  He watched it till the bitter end and then a thousand times after that.

I do love the movie though.  I'm not a Donald Sutherland fan but he was outstanding in this but Elliot Gould as Trapper was the man in this movie.  Duvall plays Frank and was his stellar self as well.  Forget DiNero and Al Pacino.  Duvall IS the greatest actor of the three. The other two guys always play the same character.  Duvall can do it all.  The greatest actor of my lifetime.  Hmmm.  That seems like a good theme for next week.  Who do you think is the greatest actor of your lifetime?  THATS IT!  A theme.  All on my own.

Anyway, enjoy this clip of the "Pro's from Dover".  Brother Bill says that all the time. "Just tell them the pro's from Dover are here."  Classic line.

"How do you want your steak?"

Happy MCW.

Absolutely a classic! This was ground breaking stuff in its day. The TV show never lived up to the movie in my way of thinking and went a little preachy with their anti-war stuff later on. Southerland -- in this and in Kelly's Heroes -- SUPERB. I still can't see him without thinking of him as "Oddball". I didn't blog jinx you but am sure someone will.

Duvall was great in MASH , loved him in everything I've ever seen, and Elliott Gould too, (well, maybe not everything, but just about), could really get into seeing Duvall and Gould team up again, they could have just about as good chemistry together as he had with Sutherland.

Yeah, I think this is the definitive Movie to TV show choice and as host, you're entitled to blog jinx. I always liked Alan Alda's Hawkeye Pierce the best.

I'm up at the Buzzkill with beheadings and Queen. I'll be around tonight to visit.

Happy MCW!

Both are classics, and I think you're right: there isn't another movie/television show match up that comes close in terms of quality and popularity. Maybe Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Which I would have picked, had I SEEN either, but being that I hate vampire-themed anything (even if it's a send-up), that's out. So, I'm not playing AGAIN this week (I know, I know), but will probably be up next time. In the meantime, I'll enjoy scouting out what others have done. Happy MCW!

Little Jeopardy fact... Alan Alda is the only person to ever win an Emmy for Acting, Writing, and Directing all in the same year.

Good afternoon MRM,

This was probably the best choice, no other movie to TV could match the quality. My father was a fan of the show also.

I'm up with Topper.

Yup, I went with Mash as first choice but I have an alternative too :) Sorry, Im late to tell you. Hope to try to get around everybody tomorrow. Been embroiled in my first big contract for my new business but, hopefully, broken the back of it now. Waiting for client feedback and, hopefully, cheque :)

The only other one I can think of that did as well ... The Odd Couple. That show was on for years.

Nice work Pam in OKC. That wasn't on the list I read.

Milky, I've returned. :) Thank you very much for the birthday wishes over on FB. It seems like I've camped out over there lately, but I've transitioned back to blogland.

I just want to publicly state (on your blog comments) that deep down I know that Nebraska is going to be a great team this year, but there's noting can be done to say it out loud. :) Have a great week!

Kym, so glad to have you back. One of my oldest friends shares our date and that is awesome. Nebraska will be TOUGH this year. Hope all is well. Milky.

Hey Madman, know I'm late on this but I have to toss out Stargate, while it was sort of a hackey sci fi show, it is on it's fourth spin-off now, and SG-1 was the longest running sci fi TV show in history.
