The first trailer for the Coen Brothers remake of True Grit is out and I'll admit that it looks alright. Of course Vince Mancini at Filmdrunk says it best I suppose "If you’re not excited about this movie, you are communist and I hate you."

Has Matt Damon gone all Heath Ledgery in his absence?
I'm Up for MCW with a film thats name cannot be mentioned...
This clip looks good though... but probably wont be released here till after christmas into the new year... another one to check out.
Add it to my "to do" list
I don't care if it is the Coen Brothers, theis movie should not have been remade. The Duke is spinning in his grave.
I'll watch it when it comes on HBO - but I won't like it.
I gotta disagree Buzz Kill, sure there are baby-boomers who are going to be bothered by this remake, but there is a whole generation of people like me who haven't seen (and don't plan on seeing) the original. If anything, this makes it more likely that I will backlog the John Wayne version. This could end up exposing a whole new audience to the Duke.
Oh, Madman, just wondering what comment system you use, I have to update mine, starting to pick up trolls ;-)
Rackster,
Whatever the basic comment system that comes with blogspot. I'm getting a couple here and there myself but I'm not computer capable enough to customize this thing further. It's on my "to do" list the next time I get a couple of extra days off.
Good point on how the Coen's will be introducing a new generation to Rooster. The two movie versions have the makings of the Star Trek argument of who is a better Captain, Kirk or the other guy. Who is a better Rooster, The Duke or Bridges. I'm actually thinking about reading the book as this movie is supposed to follow it more closely than the original did. Wait, read a book? I must not be feeling well.
Good afternoon MRM,
I'm up with one Buzz's movies.
It actually does look pretty darn good. Looks like they are recreating the gun battle scene authentically. BUT, (and I always have a but) ... here was a chance to showcase INDIAN TERRITORY, where the movie is supposed to take place. The Hangin' Judge of Fort Smith isn't in the Rockies, ya'll!
Ruh roh. This is one of S.B.'s all time favorites. Not sure how he'll feel about it. The Coen Brothers are brilliant filmmakers, but why would they want to redo this? It's an iconic film that just shouldn't be messed with, even if their particular sensibility and style do lend themselves perfectly to the western genre.
I just dont understand this fascination with remaking old classics with new actors. Unless you're totally changing the story as well, what's the point? And if you're changing the story why not call it something else?
And Star Trek is totally different because it is changing the story but just using the same characters. They've used the whole space/time continuum thing to enable them to reinvent the characters and give them different storylines. It's brilliant!
And they could still do a Rooster movie but just come at it from a different angle. They don't have to remake the original version which is just dumb.
And how many of these remakes have been better than the originals? I can't think of any off the top of my head.
I was up on time but late to tell you. Sorry guys, pressure of work over here too x
